Rep. Lynn Westmoreland, a Georgian and lifelong Southerner, described Barack and Michelle Obama as "uppity" this week.
And he's not backing off.
A spokesman told the AP that his boss didn't know that the word had any racial connotation.
Obama's campaign has not responded nor has McCain's camp commented.
