Thanks for the link, verified it on a big handful of sites. To be honest, segments from that sermon are definitely the closest statement to racism I've heard from him. However, let's look at the statement itself. "Jesus was a poor, black man who lived in a country and who lived in a culture that was controlled by rich white people. The Romans were rich, the Romans were Italian — which means they were European, which means they were white — and the Romans ran everything in Jesus’ country." Whether or not you agree on Christ's color, he definitely did not share a Roman heritage. Romans could not be crucified. However, this is not a racist policy, as even Italians were not considered Romans until 80 BC. But it is easy to see how one can interpret Christ's persecution from a standpoint of racial injustice. While it is not historically correct in my view, it is a valid interpretation from scriptural sources which does not lay blame on a race, but lays blame on racism. It is of utmost importance to separate racism itself from accusations of racism. If you do not, anyone who calls Wright a racist is themself a racist. To go a step further to prove his intentions were not racist, later from the same sermon: "He taught me, Jesus did, how to love my enemies. Jesus taught me how to love the hell outta my enemies! And not be reduced to their level of hatred, bigotry, and smallmindedness."

And,let's not over generalize. There are many, many good people in America with sound values that have no part in being racist.
