Diplomacy can equal appeasement. The lib/Dems roll the appeasement way. If, indeed appeasement is your belief, are you libs/Dems so upset with your idea being focused upon?

If diplomacy can equal appeasement, then shaking hands can equal rape. Poor diplomacy can lead to appeasement, but these are two very separate entities.

Giantsnail: He said diplomacy could equal appeasement--which was really saying diplomacy "does" equal appeasement, where Democrats are concerned. You corrected his statement by saying that the two are separate entities, and then he agreed with you. He's clearly lost in the shuffle!

Good showmanship by Chris Matthews. His staff checked the history books to find out what Neville Chamberlain did in "1939, er, 1938" so that Chris could pretend to have known all along. Granted, Kevin James should have confessed sooner that he did not remember exactly what had transpired at Munich; but he did know (or at least assumed from the President's remarks) that it was an act of appeasement and not diplomacy — which was an accurate understanding of the import of the event. Chamberlain's pacifist decision to give something to Hitler in hopes of appeasing him and preventing a war merely fueled Hitler's lust for European domination and directly led to the invasion of Czechoslovakia and ultimately to WWII.

So, rather than discuss the true issue of whether Obama will be an appeaser or a diplomat to the fanatical anti-Israel faction in the Middle East, Matthews harps on a single fact of history that he has been given because he realizes his opponent was not also given that fact. And he does this, according to Chris' own admission, for over five minutes (the provided video is edited, so one cannot tell from that how long this lasted).

Typical strategy from the left: if you know you can't win the argument over the true issue(s), find (or stage or plant) some inconsequential nit over which you can appear to win in hopes that the overall impression left is that you won and, therefore, must have been right about the true issue(s).

BTW, I do not like Kevin James' style either.

Excellent exegesis of Matthews style and motivation. I have never heard of James but he has got to be a rank amateur to not know the facts surrounding Chamberlain at Munich.The press just loves to play "gotcha".Never ceases to amaze me when these dolts are given the opportunity to ask a question of some of the most powerful people in the world and they come up with,"How much is a loaf of bread?"I guess if you come up with a real zinger you get invited to better cocktail parties on the upper East side.

You Republicans never cease to amaze me! The attempt is to label Obama as an appeaser, and glossing over the fact that Kevin James showed himself to be a complete idiot...chuckle. Matthews had every right to expose kevin James for what he was---namely a loud mouth parrot with Republican talking points pinned to his bib. My guess is that it'll take KJ a long time to live this one down:)
