We're Not in Philly Anymore: Jeremiah Wright is now disowned, and Barack Obama is forever discredited.
Guess it’s time to disown Granny, if Obama’s famous Philadelphia “race” speech is to be believed. Of course, the speech was not just believed. It was hailed, celebrated, canonized as the greatest pronouncement on race in America since Lincoln at Cooper Union. A New York Times columnist said it “should be required reading in classrooms across the country.” College seniors and first-graders, suggested the excitable Chris Matthews. Apparently there’s been a curriculum change. On Tuesday, the good senator begged to extend and revise his previous remarks on race. Moral equivalence between Grandma and Wright is now, as the Nixon administration used to say, inoperative.

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
I still stand by Wright. I don’t agree with him on everything, but the full body of his ministry proves his substance not to be hateful or divisive.
gs, are you channeling BHO or are you speaking as the slimy slug. :-)
Note: The above use of slimy slug, is not a personal attack, just a lame attempt at humor. Acually get a chuckle out of your handle.
I’m speaking for myself. If you didn’t here, Obama has further distanced himself from his pastor. It upsets me.
And please, slugs and snails are distinct from eachother. I am a homeowner.
Yes, because no one that attended the church of a racist anti-American madman for 20 years, was married by him, and has his children baptized by him, and had previously disinvited Wright to an event early in his campaign, would have any inkling of who Wright is. This Obama Cult of Personality is frightening. It is terrifying that people’s logic and reason centers can completely short-circuit, that they can see what only they want to see, hear only what they want to hear, and in the end, justify anything.
First of all, Wright is not a racist. The far-right has American mezmerized on a 30-second sound bite, when the likes of a John Hagee can go unchallenged. What will destroy this country is the narrow-mindedness of an insecure “White America” who’ve lost the “abilility” to think.
Think! Of all the sexual indescritions White Pastors in the past decade, and how the right-controlled media has taken your mind from it.
Think! Of how jobs and the American dream is being given away-by the far right (White America).
Think! Of how the real estate crisis has pummeled the economy-
brought on by the people you’re most familiar with-White America. You’re being played by people that walk, talk, and look like you.
Amazing isn’t it?!
Take heeds to your own words, ” It is terrifying that people’s logic and reason centers can completely short-circuit, that they can see what only they want to see, hear only what they want to hear, and in the end, justify anything.”
I don’t know what you’re going on about, but I’m not exactly white. You also appear to be quite racist against white people.
Racist, not in the least. I actually have a few white friends….chuckle. Just aware of the double standards that dominate the media airwaves in this wonderful country of ours.
A note: This is the second time you’ve mentioned not being “exactly white”. Why would you need to justify that fact to “any” degree?
I fully agree with you on this one: You can’t agree with everything he says, but his ministry speaks for itself. We could “imbrue” the true intent of his message—and it would still gloss over the minds of many of the people in this forum.
Minds lacking the ability to reason, have a hard time dealing with the subtance of an issue, and not the “comparisons” that advance the argument. For example: Dr. Wright has two Master’s Degrees, one Doctorate, and speaks 5 languages (perhaps fluently). His intelligence and insight is in every speech and sermon he gives.
Yet, the media has reduced the “sum” total of this man down to a 30-second sound bite. However, it’s not the same standard for White America. The short-comings of sexual deviancy and political adversity are down-played and seen as a “norm” within the mainstream.
We link the likes of a William Ayers to Obama, yet, no one here can arrive at the conclusion that the Government has given Ayers a “free pass” to move about the ‘cabin freely’. A major univerity allows him to teach, and the community of Chicago has given him permission to sit on the Board of serveral prominent charities.
Now I know that I’m going to be coined a racist, but it’s only in the white community (at large) where this connection fails to be made.
It simply doesn’t register!
The people of Pennsylvania are hurting economically, and understandably upset. Yet they allows themselves to be taken in by a suggestion that Obama is “elite” and out of touch! The people of Pennsylvania were also impaced by the subtle play on race-
the mention of Louis Farrakhan! What the news didn’t convey (to White America), is that Governor Rendell attending a Farrakhan function a decade ago-and praised the minister!Fascinating isn’t it?
Dr. Wright has two Master’s Degrees, one Doctorate, and speaks 5 languages (perhaps fluently). His intelligence and insight is in every speech and sermon he gives.
Evil and intellect are not mutually exclusive conditions. I haven’t seen anyone espouse the view that Wright has a below average IQ. Clearly, he’s a very intelligent person. He’s just used it to enrich himself while spreading hatred and paranoia. The man does drive a Mercedes and live in a white gated community, hard to achieve that being stupid.
Mutually exclusive is not an “issue in the conversation” I think he’s done very well in mirroring the success of the Kenneth Coplands” and Jesse Duplantis’ of the world.
But then, when we’re focused on one culture, we kind of overlook the others.
Yes, because no one that attended the church of a racist anti-American madman for 20 years, was married by him, and has his children baptized by him, and had previously disinvited Wright to an event early in his campaign, would have any inkling of who Wright is. Would you trust a man who, clearly has lied and misled the entire nation on Wright? Compare current rhetoric with the “Race Speech,” and Wright indicating Obama knew full well who he was, and only said otherwise for political reasons. 48% of Democrats believe that Obama shares at least some of Wright’s views, and a majority of everyone else think he does. Wake up. Obama is a racist, anti-American, radical Leftist loon in a suit, with the amzing ability to bamboozle the weak-minded, like some sort of evil Obi-Wan Kenobi. We’ve seen such people before. Don’t forget history, and don’t repeat it.
Yes, the forum post screwed up, saved an old version, and then locked out edit access as I was editing it to re-apply the modifications.
Wright is not racist. Not strictly anti-American. Prove me wrong.
I don’t think you know your pastor’s politics all that well. I certainly don’t. Even if I did, it wouldn’t effect my politics.
Naturally, Obama shares some of Wrights views. They both at least believe in Christianity, marriage, and baptism. I daresay you do as well. It’s statistically probable.
When it comes to the reasons for which the most recent alienation has occurred, such as the belief that the gov’t could be responsible for AIDS, Wright’s positions were not entirely clear even from the two minutes or so of his twenty year career you’ve heard on the news.
You’ve convinced only yourself. The polls on the Wright matter that came out on Friday, shows you to be in a distinct minority. This is a place where you are likely to find yourself in November.
“Wright is not racist. Not strictly anti-American. Prove me wrong.”
Wright has done that rather nicely himself.
I don’t think you know your pastor’s politics all that well. I certainly don’t. Even if I did, it wouldn’t effect my politics.

Like Bertrand Russell, I am not a Christian. I don’t believe in Christianity, although I am generally in favor of it as an inoculation against misanthropic, nihilistic ideologies, such as Communism, National Socialism, and Islam. Marriage, I am in favor of a contract-based society, so marriage certainly fits into that.
Not Christian! Surely there has to be another country where you an practice your blasphemy.
Any country where there’s freedom of religion. I regularly set up a soapbox on street corners, and declare felines to be the living manifestations of the Godhead.
I cannot prove a negative, so it is up to you to use the man’s words to prove his is what you say he is.
I’m glad to see you come out and show that you agree with Reverend Wright.
Not strictly anti-American.
You’re right. He also hates Jews.
So then, what percentage of American’s believe McCain shares Hagees’s views?
Hagee was never McCain’s pastor. McCain simply appeared at an event where Hagee endorsed him. Obama attended Wright’s “church” for 20 years, was married by Wright, was mentored by Wright, and entrusted his children’s religious and moral upbringing to Wright. You can’t make any comparison between the two.
Jeremiah was a bullfrog…
And, was a very good friend of mine—-still is.
Hagees is infact McCain’s spiritual advisor/pastor. And, McCain sought his endorsement. There’s no need to make a comparison. The note of interest here is that you refuse to comment on how far Hagee is out of touch with the American Agenda. Or, have you been so programmed that Hagee’s views fail to register?
Let’s digress for a moment and discuss the far-right agendas of both Hagee and Robertson.
This should be interesting!
Hagees is infact McCain’s spiritual advisor/pastor. And, McCain sought his endorsement.
You’re going to have to locate a valid and reliable source indicating that there is any connection between McCain and Hagee beyond the political endorsement. McCain is a Baptist, Hagee is not, McCain is from Arizona, Hagee is from Texas.
The note of interest here is that you refuse to comment on how far Hagee is out of touch with the American Agenda.
Um, ok,...what is the “American Agenda?” Sounds creepy and totalitarian.
Or, have you been so programmed that Hagee’s views fail to register?
Fail to register about what? He said some weird things, he’s some guy who apparently has a local power base, but largely, he’s irrelevant.
Let’s digress for a moment and discuss the far-right agendas of both Hagee and Robertson.
Neither Hagee or Robertson are far-Right. Robertson is some sort of weird religious populist, and populism is a Left-wing phenomenon. As for Hagee, he just sounds sort of like LaRouche, a Democrat.
And before things get even more bizarre, not only am I not exactly white, I volunteered and worked for an opponent of McCain leading up to and including the NH Primary, I have never voted for a Republican candidate for President in a national election in my life, and I am not at all sure I am voting for McCain in November.
The American agenda—is my agenda! Sounds reasonable and totally logical to me!
I think calling the Catholic Church an abomination is worth looking into—-get on board.
Hagee and Robertson are now “beyond” the right—in fact, quite indefectible for those such as yourself.
Not “exactly white”! Not sure what that means—and not if I really care.
What I am concerned about is the media bias, and the media obsession with Dr. Wright. There are far more important issues that need addresing.
Look, you’ve made it clear you are a racist, a Far-Leftist, and chronically unable to defend your positions with facts or documentation. So basically, what we have here, gentlemen, is the first Skewz troll.
Well, there’s gotta be a troll on every blog! I’ll vonlunteer for the job. Now, then, take a moment, move past the name calling, and elaborate on any “racist” remarks I’ve made.
Oh, by the way, Ive actually voted Republican on occasion!
This is fun. Spend the day with me.
This is fun. Spend the day with me.
Only if you’re a gay male, between the ages of 23 and 28, with a college education, who likes cats, and is paying.
Even I’ve never voted Republican, but that may change if the Democrats nominate Obama.
By all means vote Repbulican! That’s your inherent right. I’ll stick with the candidate that can change the way we do business in Washington.
Pssst. Continue to work on those Dr. Wright quotes.
On the exit polling of Pennsylvania:
Here’s one for the group. There are a lot of “good” people in Pennsylvanie, and Ohio, and Indiana, who certainly love God and country.
However, in the exit polls of Pennsylvania, it looks like the faith of quite a few people was challenged.
A good percentaged who were polled, stated ‘race’ was an issue in choosing their candidate.
Wonderful Christians I’d venture to say!
