Some will immediately blame GWB. After all he is omnipotent, you know causing only bad things to happen to those who try hard and follow the rules.
And its because of this that its a liberal bias? I’m wondering who moved the slider here, it just looks like statistics to me. If they had said “this is all due to the failing education system of our current government”, or ANY sort of commentary, I could understand it. Whats up with this site?
I skewed it left because it seeks to divert the blame from the students. It frequently refers to probability and chance. (“[G]raduating from high school in America’s largest cities amounts, essentially, to a coin toss.”)
While I readily acknowledge the strong effects an environment can have on a person, I think it’s safe to say that if most students wanted to graduate, they would. Sure, we can do a better job at getting them qualified teachers and decent books, but even barring that, there are other resources out there. When I go to the library, all the kids are doing on the computers is surfing MySpace and YouTube. We have to shake off the idea that every problem we have is the fault of someone else, and start taking some responsibility for our own lives.
Now, why can’t we talk about race, here? Why do I see a photo of jubilant black high school graduates, when the thesis of the article is that about 1/2 of blacks in major American cities DON’T graduate? Clearly there’s a liberal bias to fuzz up the problem of poor-performing black high schoolers.
Will the Afro-Americans vote for Hilary?
